I used CamStudio 2.0 to make a training video. It's about 15 minutes long. It's a powerpoint with audio. It saved in AVI format and plays very well in the Movie Player provided by CamStudio. However, the video falls apart when you play it in VLC or WMP. The audio is fine, but the video rapidly moves through the PowerPoint, looping over and over.

I used the SWF Producer to convert the file to SWF and it looks and plays very well. Except it spanded the video to three files. SWF, when played in IE, allows the video to play but the operator can't control the video to move it forward or back, only to pause, play and stop. My research indicated I should convert it to FLV. (I tried to produce the SWF so it, in theory, would play in the FLV player but no joy.)

I found software that either converts the AVI file but the video quality is very poor or it can convert the SWF to FLV but breaks the span so the video is now three disjointed files. I can't find anything that will allow me to sew the three files back together.

I tried to get support from CamStudio but I got no response after a week and now their forum is hosed and off line.

    1. Any ideas on how to get the original AVI file to play in VLC and WMP?
    2. Any suggestions to convert the avi to FLV?
    3. Any ideas on a better product to make videos from your screen capture with audio straight to FLV?
    4. Why does CamSudio come with Movie Player and Movie Player 2 when they look and function the same?:confused

VLC Player should have no problem at all playing an .avi file. What happens when you try to play the .avi with VLC ?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with CamStudio .

The video is a powerpoint presentation. It looks as though the slides are fliping through and looping back over and over again, in about 1 or two seconds. With over thirty slides that's quick reading. It would appear like the video and audio are out of sync but yet when I convert it to SWF regardless of the software used, the video and audio are in sync.

Ok im not famililar with powerpoint, but are you saying that video/audio is out of sync when you use VLC player ? That is easy to remedy in VLC as you can adjust the timing of audio/video so that they are in sync (audio and video tracking).

As far as converting it to FLV, you could try :

I have never used that particular application, so i can't speak to its effectiveness .
    Hope this helps.

Ok, lets slow down a second.. you said
Did you play the video in WMP alone, or in PowerPoint? or both?

So your trying to create a slide that will show the whole video?
Or the video plays as slides change?

Are you rendering and playing this back on the same PC?

I created a powerpoint. Then used CamStudio to record the slides as I narrated through the slides. (Kind of like being at a boring lecture without seeing the instructor. CamStudio recorded it as a .AVI file. When I play the AVI file the video loops and runs at lightening speed whie the audo plays normally. I've played it in VLC, Media Player and it plays the sameway. It is perfect when I play it in the CamStudio Movie Player.

I'm trying to make this video playable to other members of my department on their computers from our server. We use a software call PowerDMS to distribute the video/documents. The format needs to be AVI or FLV. I can't use the AVI since the video doesn't play well in their default application. I can't get the full file converted to FLV.

I've been able to convert it to FLV, using AVS4your video converter and IMToo converter 6. However, they are FLV files, now if I can just figure out how to get it to play in Internet Explorer so I don't have to have a player install on all the computers in the department. Arrrrggghhhh!

CamStudio creates an HTML file to play the SWF when it converts it. Replacing the file names didn't allow it to play. I've gone to FLV test pages to get pull down files to learn how to create a page that will play them but no joy. I can't get the embedded files to play. Two hours after quitting time, I finally gave up until Monday

Hi, I've just downloaded CamStudio today and I wondered if you could help me out. On the official FAQ for the software, it says that in order to view my videos I need to go into C:/Users/MyUser/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/ProgramFiles/CamStudio.

I can get up to the Virtual Store folder, but then I can't find a Program Files folder; can someone tell me what I'm doing/have done wrong? Thanks a lot

It depends on what operating system you have. XP, Vista, Windows 7..... The file structure would change. I'd create a short video with a distinctive name, then search for it to verify where it's being stored.

I haven't even had the option to call it anything. The instructions were for Vista - which is what I have. Is it possible that I've downloaded a bogus product?

    Thanks

That path would work for Vista. Unfortunately, I don't have CamStudio installed on a Vista machine.

MajorGeeks offers this application at http://majorgeeks.com/CamStudio_d4646.html to be sure you have a valid program.

You asked this question inside an old forum topic which isn't read by anyone but those subscribed to it (probably only me). To get better help, you should post the question as a new topic under software. I'm not a moderator and can't move the topic myself.
