Can a motherboard cause this many problems?

Current Set UP :

Video Card : Evga 260 gtx
Motherboard : Evga 750i
Memory : Corsair DDR2 800 (8 gbs)
PSU : Can't remember the Brand, but it was recommended on SLI-ZONE. It's a 950 Watt
Processor : E8400
Hard Drives x3 : 250 gb
Hard Drive x1 :1000 gb (1 TB)

Now, I have a very good, solid rig. I shouldn't have these problems and I'm thinking my motherboard is holding me back. The problems I've been having.

1. Windows Vista : It lags, I idle at 1 gb and my CPU Usage is ALWAYS in the 50-60. I lag like no tomorrow, my net is slower on Vista and a BIG pain in the ***. I tried to play BF2, I only had the pleasure to play for 1-2 minutes until the game locked up and froze.

2. Windows XP : It lags... It lagged for 20 minutes to install a freaking video driver for my Nvidia 260 gtx. It constantly has Blue Screens of Death (which I never had on ANY of my prior machines). I think my motherboard is causing this " With network being the problem ". I knew something was fishy about this mother board.

No matter what OS or Hard Drive I go on. I keep running into problems with the system being slow and I shouldn't have these problems. Let me give you some examples.

Vista : My games would lock up and freeze. I would lag even clicking on the freaking START Button. I didn't have blue screen of deaths, but it would dump my sound/video drivers (so I had to reinstall).

XP : Thus far, I'm having Blue Screen of Death. I haven't had blue screen of deaths since Windows ME. Hell, even my programs with NOTHING on the HDD just lock up. This copy of Windows XP was fine on my...

Different PSU, but I don't think this is a PSU issue.

Does this sound like a fault motherboard?

I highly doubt it's a mobo related problem, could you give more detailed specs about your power supply?

Also since when did you start having these problems and how old is this PC?

I think it could be a temperature related problem, so download everest and check what temps the components(cpu, gpu etc) are running at.

I don't think it's the motherboard either. Lag and lock up is normally a software issue, a thermal issue, or a hard drive issue. From the brief description of your PSU, it would appear to be powerful enough at 950w, but it could be that it's failing. You should download and run HWmonitor. Leave it running minimized for an hour or two whilst doing some normal computing. It will record the highs and lows of your system temps and voltages. If you're unsure of what's considered acceptable, just post a screen shot of the readings and we'll try to advise. You should visit your hard drive maker's web site(s) and grab their diagnostic tools. Run the advanced in-depth tests on all your drives (primarily drive C: ) to be sure you have no HD issues. A good RAM diagnostic wouldn't hurt either; I like this one. Another thing to look at would be a possible BIOS upgrade. A friend of mine had a motherboard that would only boot normally after hitting the reset button; after powering on, there would be the motherboard logo and POST screen, then no video but the hard drive was loading Windows. If you hit the reset button, Windows would load normally. This only happened on 'cold boots'. Flashing the BIOS to the newest version fixed the problem. So you might consider it.

(on a side note: I know eVGA has lifetime warranties on their hardware, but I think you must register within 30 days for the full warranty)

 

I am no expert on this but i had similar problems on one of my PCs (not sure if it was the one with GTX260 or the GTX295) and i rolled back the driver.
It sound more like a graphic problem than Mobo.
You could also check that the GPU is seated fully and that the external connector is fully home.
