I hope you are talking leagal?

BearShare and Kazaa have spyware, and download.com is a joke.

I suggest you pay a visit to the Malware Forum as well.

Of course legal, I have my CC ready for legal payment. I'm glad I didnt go to Kazaa or BearShare now, but can you suggest anything? Yahoo Music didnt have any Zeppelin songs neither did Napster.

I tried this place which is still the best..

Why should I visit the Malware forums? I didnt download anything yet, or join any music club yet?

I suggested the Malware Forum because you stated that you've already tried BearShare and Kazaa, which are riddled with Adware and Spyware.

Let me explain further in case it's not clear, if you have installed Kazaa or BearShare, you will have Adware and Spyware installed.

You don't have to download anything to get infected.

I gotcha:) , glad I didnt install Kazaa or BearShare. How do you feel about
AllofMp3.com, the site JustPlayin recommended? I did buy a $15.00 account with them, and I downloaded 20 songs and one album. Of course I ran my Spysweeper, AV and Ad-AwareSE through the saved files which werent opened and they came out clean...but obviously that doesnt mean anything. Should I be worried?

Thanks again for all your advice Insomniac, this isn't the first thread in which you helped me out:cool:

    You're welcome.

I wouldn't be concerned with infection as far as allofmp3.com is concerned.

My only worry is that, according to the RIA, it has declared them to be in violation of copyright holders.

That may not mean anything, but it may also mean they are forced to shut down, although being based in Russia, that's easier said than done.

I think RIA's concern is that the files aren't protected by DRM, and royalties.

Whether you buy from them or not is your decision.

Well that sucks. Hopefully I won't get any tickets or fines, but I thought if it was a pay site it was all good. Meaning if I broke the law, I didn't know I was doing it.

O well, if it comes down to it I guess I'll just have to pay the fines. Thanks for the heads up Insomniac.

    You won't be getting fines.

If it's anyone, it will be the company. Probably why they are in Russia.

I posted that so you can make an informed choice, but I wouldn't be concerned about being fined.

The RIAA is irrelevant as they are a U.S. entity and their claim is based on the DMCA, a U.S. law. Because Russia is a sovereign country and Allofmp3.com meets Russian legal requirements, there is little they can do but lobby the Russian government to change the law and complain about the situation.

Whether they are a US entity isn't relevant.

They have global reach and a lot of clout.

Who do you think got Kazaa shut down and sued?

Bear in mind Kazaa is an Australian company.

The reason these companies hide in Russia is because of lax laws.

If Russia decides to play ball, that site won't be around for long.

Great discussion guys, thanks for the link Insom. This is alot like what happened to Overgrow.com, theyre a Canadian based site, but the US arrested the owners and seized theyre servers in Canada and shut down the site.

What they don't seem to understand is that they close one down, and another will pop up. They will never win.

Instead, they should embrace the technology and offer unrestricted mp3's.

If that model didn't work, these sites wouldn't be profitable.

What about the legality of streaming mp3 files? As you probably know mp3 streams can be captured and saved as files so piracy is a concern there as well. Is it legal to stream legally begotten mp3 files on your personal website or blog (copyrighted content that is, not the open source mp3's)? Inquiring minds wish to know....

You would need to obtain consent to stream copyright work.

Kinda guess that copying streaming music, would be near as dammit to using your cassette player to tape music from a radio show or with modern technologie, using your MP3 player to record the same?

I never remember a hoohaa ( or much of it ) over recording to cassette, radio shows which are full of copyrighted music... similar to the question of recording to VCR or DVDRW a film off TV to watch later or archive. The Radio or TV companies have paid for the rights to play/screen that media granted, but when I record it for viewing later isn't in theory that like a form of p2p from those media companies?

I digress from the topic slightly tho.
