Can anyone recommend any application that will repair Outlook pst and ost files (preferably free )?

I have recently replaced the disks in my laptop and reinstalled Windows XP SP2.

Although the pst and ost files have been backed up and restored Outlook now only sees a few of the large number of emails in the files.

My laptop is also (supposed) to be connecting to Exchange server. Could problems with this connection be preventing Outlook opening the files correctly? Calendar and Tasks have disappeared

I am at a loss and must get back to the lost emails ASAP.

Fortunately I still have the undisturbed files on the old discs and at least two backed up copies.

    Thanks for any replies.

When Outlook is installed, it also installs a program to detect and repair errors in the .pst and .ost files. It's named scanpst.exe. More information on how to use it is located here.

Good luck, and report back on how things go.

    Thanks NOAHAWK,

In fact I located that Microsoft site yesterday but on my computer there is no LCID for English UK (1057) where would I find these files?

    OR

If I scan using LCID 1033 (English US) will that cause me any serious problems?

I also down loaded a few commercial programmes and although one in particular appeared to work it did not allow a save unless paid for at $120. I had hoped to find something for free. I’m just s cheapskate

The 4 digit LCID number is based on the version of Office installed, I believe. So this would mean that the English US version is installed on that computer, so everything done in Office to this point has been in English US - so running scanpst on it shouldn't make a difference.

Before scanpst attempts to fix any errors, it will ask you to tell it where to save a backup - make use of the feature, and you shouldn't have to worry after that :)

Outlook appears to be the best/cheapest/easiest program for handling pst files - not just accessing them, but fixing them as well via scanpst. I've looked for programs to open pst files, but they all wanted money as well, it was just easier to use Outlook and be done with it.

Good luck on the repairing :)
