Hi. I've got this dodgy media player from hong kong and the manual says i need to format to FAT. I've tried NTFS and it just doesn't work.
Are there any apps or methods in windows to let me do this?

    Thanks, Pete

Fat is an old, outdated file format that i would recommend against formatting your drive to accomodate.

Ditch the dodgy MP and find one that is compliant with NTFS..

petemate there should be a work around that restriction of FAT32 only for your external HD, a lot of us use to think we where stuck with FAT32 for our removeable Flashdrives but I think Mada Milty was the one who showed us the work around...............I would just keep looking/googling for a solution mate

    BCGray,
If you think Madamilty knows, seems better if petemate start with asking mada rather than trying to google around? I think this is the second time today the question came up of how to change ntsc back to fat32. I expect there's a link floating around here in the forum.

Actually I was wrong it was Halo and not Mada Milty and was for USB Ram devices, but I think there should be something similar for External HD's and found the link http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=98561 Now if I could just find my *$#@* brains I'd be okay

I appreciate the help, but my thread title might be a bit misleading (sorry). It's not strictly speaking an external hdd. The unit allows the drive to be read/written, but the menu etc. goes nuts when i try and use the media player functions.

I think the firmware needs the drive to be formatted to fat32 to be recognised by the player's software.

I'm a fool for buying crap like this, I know...

As you can tell, my chances of a refund are nil. I've got a feeling that they'd want me to pay for the postage, which actually cost more than the item. (it's how they get around paying eBay fees)

Cheers for your help by the way folks :)

hmm... nope. maybe if i put it in the pc and take it out again i could do that.

before i try that though, are there any good shareware progs that could format to fat32?
