Can I install my own DSL?

I live in a remote area and I have signed up for DSL but no one has called me in 5 weeks since I signed up for it. They said I was on a list http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif. So now I am thinking about asking them to turn it on and I would buy a DSL modem and hook it up myself. Is this feasible for an amateur?

You would have to have service first. If you are in a Remote area, most likely you are unable to get DSL. Call back who you signed with for DSL and follow up if any action has been taken. Most likely your request may of fell through the system and never got seen.

 

No, there is definately DSL in my area, but they are the only people who do it. Also, I have called them everyday and they finally told me that somebody would call me to setup an appointment. It's been 6 weeks now. I'm thinking of just spending $450 to get DirecWay. It's fast but expensive.

 

So, maybe I can call and ask them to give me the eqiupment and the configuration information, and I could set it up myself?

 

DirecWay is not as fast as the 1.5mbps that I would get with DSL.

 

Correction. DirecWay tells you the download speed, not the connection speed.

 

I live in California and use SBC DSL, they sent me the modem, wires, and software…and I installed it myself, but they still had to turn on the hub, on their end of the line, and after all they still had to make a trip to the house, and look at the outside wires……but, it works just fine…….wobbles

 

Ok, it's comming Thursday! A guy will install it. Also, they said I could do it too, if I wanted to pick it up wednesday, but they could do it faster than I could.
