Is it possible to overclock a 256mb ATI Sapphire Radeon 9200 Atlantis? If so, what precautions should I take and is there a guide to how to do it properly anywhere on majorgeeks or the Internet?

Firstly OC the vid card will generate signifcant environmental heat and depending on your CPU cooling set-up will most likely cause this to heat up as well (have done it and know). Therefore you need to run an environmental monitor as you OC the vid card and monitor your CPU temps as you do it. EVEREST Home is good for this:

DL open and look at Computer > Sensor.

Well the answer should be yes and prob the simplest method is to use "ATITool":

    http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/

DL and install. Open this then open "Show 3D View" and run the "Find Max Core" for 1 hour, return back to default value and run "Find Max Mem" for at least 1 hour, this will give the best OC values for your Vid Card. Create "New" profile and set the Core and Mem to those settings you had generated while testing and save as OC profile.

Checking on your Sensor output from EVEREST as it is running if temps get to hot then stop ATITool. Don't try and OC the Vid Card and then damage your CPU

This will depend on your make/model of CPU. Look in EVEREST and then check out this link for the temp Max ranges of CPU's:

I should have stated earlier I always back-off at least 10% from the Max values for OC as a cautionary approach.

    Just a couple of things...

    - I opened up my PC earlier and vaccuumed all of the dust out from the fans and MOBO and then rechecked the temperature using Everest and it had dropped by around 15c which is great.

    - When I open up ATItools I get the following message:

Does this mean that I should not attempt to oveclock it or will it be safe as long as I go by instructions you gave?

Okay firstly I see you are looking at other Vid Cards and to be honest you won't really notice any significant differance if you OC this card. The only differences I noticed when I OC'd a 9250 was ingame would be a little smoother but the card was still very limited and would freeze with say WarCraftIII.

What driver do you currently have??
