Can I recover BIOS?

Hiya Geeks

My son has an athlon 1000 on an MS6191 mb which has been freezing on him a lot lately, sometimes after a few minutes others after a few hours. This freezing does not depend on what operation is being carried out either.

I tested the graphics card, memory hard drive etc and all were ok so I moved everything into a different machine. That machine is now working fine so my thoughts are that it is a mb or cpu problem.

I was advised to upgrade the bios which I did earlier but had a power cut in mid update. Now all I get when turning on the machine is 2 short beeps, ie parity failure. I changed the memory stick with no difference so presume that the bios chip was screwed.

Is there anyway I can save this machine as I cannot afford to upgrade it at this time?

Whoops - forgot to report.

Didn't work unfortunately. Now when I boot I get 7 beeps, so looks like the machine is dead. I will just have to keep my eyes open for an old slot A mb nice and cheap.

 

Is board under warrenty?
Most of time, Failed bios update: Is Covered for replacement!

 

Unfortunately the board is not under warranty and I have emailed MSi twice now asking for info on replacing the bios chip and have had no response
