Can I Recover Files Deleted On a External Hard Drive?

    I had deleted a folder of important files by mistake and I really need them back.
    is there any program to recover them or something? Please help!:cry

    Hi

    You should be able too, so long as you have not been saving more files to that exHDD as the more files you save the less likely it is that you will recover what you want, as you delete a file its flagged up as an empty block to the OS but the data is still their (caveat to this is if you use secure deletion apps) so can be recovered, that is until the data block is needed.


    So try the following apps

    Recuva
    PC Inspector File Recovery

    Do remember not to save the recovered filed to your external drive during recovery, save them to your C Drive.

    If you are using the likes of Vista or Windows 7 then try right clicking the folder or drive the deleted folder was in and choose Properties > Previous Versions tab and look to see for a backup of before the folder was deleted and then double click that date to open then navigate to the folder you need and rigth click copy and paste to your desktop.

    Pervious Versions is good tool but doesnt always work in XP or for external drives but worth a try.
