Can i switch fans on the thermaltake 7+

See Above. I would like to put the new ufo fan from theremaltake on a 7+. Is this possible?

well ive got a volcano 9 and it was no problem changing the fan just undone the screws stuck the new one on and away she goes
i expect the 7 would be the same is the new fan the same size as the original if it is, then no problem but if its bigger youll have to get an adapter kit

 

its 80*80. i dno how big the volcano is, but thats quite large for a hs fan. you could stick some bars around the heat sink to hold it on rather than screws into the heatsink. bit bodeged but hey it would work!

OOh, G.L.S. you have a volcano 9. You recon it would cool my 3000+ alright? cause my Aero V doesnt seem to be up to it (runs at around 67C idle! . Im not sure whether its worth buying a 7+ or whether a 9 would do.

The reason i ask is the fan seems to be set in a metal case. There is a pic below. The ufo fans are 92mm and come with an adapter. Thermaltake said it is compatable with any heatsink but i dont know about this one.

Oh ya what do you mean about putting bars around the heatsink?

I wouldnt worry, just a daft idea i had to hold a fan on a heatsink without screwing it. wouldnt work

 

@ overcooked im not sure about that if it was me id lay that case down open the side up unscrew the grill and see if the fan lifts out of the housing or not

@goldfish i love my volcano 9 the max speed is rated at 4800rpm but it will go up to 5300ish but it screams like a jet engine at that speed
anyway im running at 3000rpm and it keeps my 2600 at 42c or goes up to about 49c under heavy load

The only thing that is bothering me is that steel caseing. I dont have the 7+ my self but i can get good deal on one if i wanted to. Here is another pic. it show the heatsink out of the casing. It looks to me that a fan would have to be attached to case and not the heatsink. Please take a look and let me know what you think. If i am unable to put a 92mm fan on this badboy any one have any suggestion for a heatsink. I want something that lets me screw in the fan not thost clips that go over the fan. also i dont have that much room around my cpu there are transistors right there so nothing too big. There is a pic of my board on another one of my posts.

Your system runs 67c with that cooler? I just installed a new 3000+ barton, and with the stock HS/fan combo I'm running about 38c idle and up to 55c full load.. You alread checked to see if its mounted properly with the correct amount of thermal paste? Its unusual for a barton to run that hot, since its die area is considerably larger than its non-barton breathern. Anyhow, if you already checked your HS/FAN install and its not the problem I guess a new combo is in order. Is your case temps really high too? Maybe you need to upgrade case fans.

Bleh, you lucky bastige... ive just got a BIOS update for my mobo which means im now running around 68C load instead of 75C load, but still...

And its mounted exactly right, and ive definatley got enough thermal paste coz i did it like the instructions said.

 

If you check out www.overclockers.com an overwhelming amount of the CPUs in the database use Thermalright heatsinks. The SLK-947U can hold a 92mm fan. That's the one I would go for.
