I have a collection of purchased songs on my mac (osx lion) that I would like to move to my windows 7 laptop. Then I want to copy them to a non-itunes music program and purchase a non-apple listening device. My ipod and itunes have been a hassle for some time and I'm ready for something else.
My question is, is this possible? Back in my XP days, my songs showed up in Windows Media Player as well as itunes and I could do whatever I wanted with them, but moving my stuff from the XP machine to the mac was a challenge and some of my purchases (as well as all of my burned songs) were lost. I also found recently that WMP won't let me burn CD's, even those that are too old to be copy-protected.
I feel like Rip Van Winkle here. Has copying and moving music changed that much in the last decade? Advice desperately needed. :confused

    Hi

You can move media between devices using the info HERE although with experience its not always as easy as they say it should be.

As for copying or transferring media from iTunes to no Apple products is more problematic and from the iTunes purchased music its DRM so will only play on specific devices that are registered.

Is a bit of an issue where digital media is concerned and all depends on what service you subscribe too, I wish all where interchangeable as that would make life easier but sadly things are not so easy, which was the reason I subscribed to Xbox Music over iTunes as it was easier to move media from my PCs to my portable devices, but Xbox Music has limitations also.

Nothing really beats a physical CD when it comes to media portability.

While there are routes to de DRM music Majorgeeks cannot condone the use of them for legal reasons, so we cannot go to suggestions in this vain.

As for burning media then try CDBurnerXP

Thank you for your reply. I'll guess I'll have to start fresh when I get the new device. :(
