Can my computer run XP Home?

My computer has a 400mhz processor, 128MB of RAM (EDO SIMMS), 40GB HDD (partitioned into five 8GB segments due to BIOS restrictions, but the C: drive has 5.6GB free space), and a wireless network card. It is currently running Windows 98SE.

The Microsoft Upgrade Adviser gave it the go ahead, but does anyone know how slow it will be? It is running the Win98 perfectly, so do the Pros outweigh the Cons?

    Thanks!

Pros: it will be more stable.

Cons: With that little of ram, it will be slower than an old dog with arthritis. If your bios is too old to see anything above an 8gb partition, then chances are it doesn't support ACPI properly, which may or may not cause problems in XP. XP doesn't always choose the correct HAL for old machines.

I would stay with 98SE. Your hardware is too slow and dated to comfortably run XP.

I'd agree with previous statements.. here at my work we deployed Comcrap 400 mghz w/128mb ram and 4gb hdd - and they are slow (they only use 1 app & that is all the client would pay for) and they HAMMER those drives for virtual memory...
but what I wanted to add is I have worked on many old PCs & that hdd issue you have: did you try to update the BIOS? or see if the drive manufacture has an 'overlay' that would allow the drive to be used 'correctly'? I forget the exact name of any of them, but I have ran into that.

I have an 800MHz Gateway with 128 Mb of memory and it is very slow with XP Home. But it is every easy to administer with wireless, plug and plug peripherals. I'm just glad it's my wife's machine and not mine.

With that system definitely stick with 98SE. :)
