Can No Longer Edit My Posts

    Hey, I'm not sure if any of you guys were aware of this but I can't edit myposts, also all my private messaging features have dissapered :eek: Anyone else experiencing the same?

    I believe you only have about 5 minutes to attempt and edit. After that the Edit option goes away.

    Yes! It is a priviledge that can be granted as well as being taken away when forum guidelines are not being followed.

    Five minute edit limit was imposed to so you can edit your typos, but not go back hours, or days later and play around with your post for the purpose of 'wining' an argument, which apparently was happening with a few members at one point.

    Oh, b.t.w.: - Assembling a P.C. with a screwdriver doesn't one a Computer Engineer, LoL. Unless you’ve got a University Degree at 14 or 15, or something. In which case I’d be impressed. ;)

    Yes the title of Engineer is used too loosly in the world! When you go to school and actually get your engineering degree then you have the right to call yourself an engineer not before. Don't take getting an a degree in engineering lightly, especially Electrical Engineering. I had 130 people in my first day of classes in the first course I had to take in Electomagnetic Theory (often called Fields and Waves class). Before midterm 70 dropped the class and more than half of the 70 dropped engineering completely. The remainder changed their engineering major from EE. Oh and by final exam, only 10 passed (yes I was one of them ;) ). Electromagetic Theory will separate the men from the boys!

    OK guys, siggy now changed :) I think I've realised how my PM privelages have been removed now I think of it. I said in one forums about getting around websites that have been filtered by schools and that if the guy wanted to know further to PM me :eek: I know this may be a daft question but is there any way I can redeem myself?

    You nailed it.

    Only time will tell. If you consistently demonstrate an ability to abide by our guidelines, specifically not using MajorGeeks in any way to assist in illegal activities I will lift the restrictions. If you try to pull a stunt to get around the restriction you would be banned from the site.

    Ok then I'll make sure I don't put another toe out of line. I know this might be a bit of a cheek asking this but is there any chance that I could get my post editing back? The personal messages I can wait for, however it's supprising how much I've missed the Edit feature sinse it's absence :eek:

    as well as Lev's wise words above, just keep your nose clean, think about the consequences of your posts,

    That one you highlighted is a good example, just think of this, say you have left school worked hard and started the job you really want, within the first 6mths to decide I dont like the network blocks/permissions that they have in place so you bypass them, the security admin notices and you are sacked, is it really worth loosing a job over and, lets be honest.. possibly your career in that industry ( all good jobs and companies want references from past empolyeers these days ) as another employeer will take those split second actions into concideration, not worth it really is it just to surf a webpage you can wait a few hours until you get home to view?

    If we were to answer all the questions on bypassing admin and in this case school ones then the person we are telling the route to take will think its acceptable practice and continue, so at least on this forum we take the view of not posting instructions like these or allowing warez,

    a fair few of us work for company's and agencys in which these security blocks are in place so we do know they are frustrating at times... but cest la vie!




    as to editing PROOF READ FIRST, sometimes it takes me 30mins+ to make sure a post is accurate before submitting ;)

    plus have a good weekend :)

    Bobo, you seem pretty on the ball for being 16. Most kids who get in trouble here cut and run and are never heard from again. You accepted responsibility for screwing up. I'm impressed.:cool:

    As am I. Most either just run away or try and sign up under a new username (which is really obvious to spot, by the way, so don't try it), or just try to "get back" at the forums. Or they start their own forums and wonder why nobody is going to them :p

    What's the count on spinoff forums? 16? 17? As far as I know none of them have more than 5 regulars. heh.

    I think you've better than I would've at 15, I can't remember how old I was when I signed up, think it was a few months before I was 16.....yeh that makes sense.

    Glad things are sorted, sheesh, saturday nights are so boring now....
