    Hi There,
Not sure if this is the right forum or if anyone here specializes in network issues. If not no problem, but i find the people in the malware forum so helpful i figured i try this one.

I have a tp-link router (WR841N) which i used to be able to access via 192.168.0.1 with a username and password. I have recently not been able to do this.

I have tried using firefox and ie, from a pc and a mac with the same result "The connection was reset" not sure what this means. IE forwards the address to 192.168.0.1:143 automatically, allows me to enter username and password then tell me "the page can not be displayed"

i have unplugged the router - for 30 seconds - plugged it back in. no change. i can ping the router no problem - i get a reply anyway.
i have internet access, all of my peripherals talk just fine it really seems to be just accessing the firmware is the problem.

anyone out there have any experience with this?
    thanks
    Andy

    Open CMD - Windows Key & R
    type CMD & Enter
Is the console (black window) type ipconfig & Enter
You might have to scroll back up - look for the Default Gateway
Open your browser and type that address into the address bar - sometime it works better if you use http://.

the default gateway is 192.168.0.1, and the "http://" doesn't seem to make a difference in my case.

Unplug the router for more than 30 seconds. Try 2 minutes.
While you have it unplugged, move the pc cat cable on the router to another port just on the off chance the port is bad.

Are you getting past the router and to the Internet? If so, the ports are fine. And in fact, the router is fine too but you just cannot access the admin menu.

Most routers allow you to change this "internal IP" address from the default of 192.168.0.1 (for your TP-Link). Are you sure you never did that?

Also try a different browser or add it to your trusted sites or try compatibility mode.

Digerati: positive i never changed the internal ip.
foogoo: tried 3 differnt browsers on several different machines

firefox flatly wont let me connect.
IE asks for user name and password, it appears to log in but then no information is displayed, however the page has the frame layout i would expect when logged in.

    this is very bizarre

I ask again, are you getting past the router and to the Internet? If so, the router is doing it's job. And so are the ports.

@Digerati. Yes everything else works fine, i can get on the net. I just can not access the firmware.
I have just printed out the info in plodr's message. Will go through that tonight.

I would try 192.168.1.1 (as seen in plodr's link and here).

so i am still having issues with this.
I have gone through the recommended link.

The default gateway is 192.168.0.1. i can ping it with no issue. it is what appears as the gateway when i do an ipconfig.
if i try to type the default access tplinklogin.net i get to a page which informs me that this domain may be for sale.

I still can not access the routers firmware. Is this common?

should i just perform a factory reset?

ps. when you say use 192.168.1.1 what do you mean?

says, you do not need an internet connection to access this BUT requires a physical connection between the gateway and the computer. In other words, you need to connect an ethernet cable.

Yep. I am hardwired. When I type In the ip in the url I just get a site not found message. I used to be able to log in no problem

    From the link above
    Have you tried all three?
If so and none work, then the next thing to do is find the reset button and reset the router.

If it still doesn't work and I was unable to access my router, I'd be buying another router.

Hey, here's a silly question. What's the ip address your pc is pulling from the router?

If you have tried a resetting your router and you have also done a power cycle atleast twice and none of those work then you may have to consider replacing your router.

so i reset the router to factory default. I could then log into the router again and configure it back to the way it was.
All is now good in the world.

Still dont really understand how i was "blocked". I have also added a strong firewall and changed all my passwords.
    Thanks for all your help

@virtualspeedster: the ip i was being given by the router was within the range of numbers i specified in the firmware.
