Can not do a scan disc

I have a problem. I can not check my C for errors. The screen says the action can not be done because of a recent software and auto checking also can not be done unless I uninstall the software throuth control panel. But it does'nt say what is this software. I have tried safe mode, the new scandisk1.4 but no error checking at all. Some time back I downloaded an antivirus and installed it. The name starts with a.I do not remember the details. While installling this. a small black screen popped up and disappeared within a fraction of a second. Scanning for malware,virus etc. came out negetive. There is no sign of this software anywhere: control panel, Revo, Advanced system care.
So what can I do to ger my scandisc function back?
My OS is windows 7 Ultimate,SP1; and I use mse pre release.
Please help.

 

I don't know what you mean by scandisk1.4; scandisk was a function of Windows 9x.

Windows 7's check disk function is CHKDSK; see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730714.aspx how to use it.

The name is wrong, but the version number matches this:
CheckDisk 1.4

It was just updated July 9, 2012.

If you have the Recovery Console installed, you can run chkdsk from there.
If the software does not appear in any of the 'Add or Remove' lists, it might be malware.
