    Hello,

I am trying to go through all the steps posted before I post my HijackThis log, however when I boot up in safe mode my computer does not recognize my usual Windows logon name and/or password. This happens when the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen comes on. I am on my work computer if that makes any difference, would only administrators have access to booting in safe mode? If so, can I still follow the steps without going through the safe mode steps?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Welcome to MGs!

That means that your normal user account does not have administrator priviledges. You can just change it to an admin account by logging in as the Administrator in safe mode and then change your user account type so it is and admin account. Then you can run the cleaning steps and afterwards you can change your account back to non-admin if that is how you prefer to work.

How do you install software in your user account if you do not have admin priviledges?

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I assume I would need the Administrator password to change my user account which I don't have...I do have the ability to install software with this account, the powers-that-be must have given me that right but not anything else?

I will have to go through my IT department I'm guessing to get this virus removed (the Windows Live "invitation")...thank you again, hopefully they'll be able to fix this.

Okay! So you are saying this is not a PC that you own. It is a company PC! Is that correct? That would explain why you do not have admin capabilities or the admin password.

Just run ALL the steps in normal boot mode and we will see what we can do to fix you up. Not being able to boot into safe mode may be a problem. If we get to the point where we really need to boot in safe mode, you will just have to get your IT department to clean the problems off the PC.
