I can not normal boot into WinXP professional. I get the blue screen of death. I can boot into safe mode. I have followed all the steps in forum.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407. I was not able to to install Counter Spy, as I can only boot into safe mode. It will not install in safe mode. I do not have SP2 on this system.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Look in Add/Remove prgrams and uninstall anything related to HotBar (I also saw it in your BitDefender log password protected under Spybot).
    Also uninstall the belowif found:
MyWebSearch Email Plugin or MyWebSearch or MyWay
    SideStep
    Spyware Slayer
You also have both Avast and Symantec AVs installed. You must uninstall one of them. Do this NOW!

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to khylrunlgmub ... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    meskszly5

Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = no
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\H\Local Settings\Temp\temp.fr497E\common.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\H\Local Settings\Temp\temp.fr497E\PIB.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\H\Local Settings\Temp\temp.fr497E\TBPS.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\H\Local Settings\Temp\temp.fr497E\toolbar.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\H\Local Settings\Temp\unpack\CC_43.inf
    C:\Documents and Settings\H\Local Settings\Temp\unpack\inst43.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\inf\adrmsper.inf
    C:\WINDOWS\inf\speer.inf
    C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall6_98.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall7_14.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\f3PSSavr.scr

Additional step to delete files in the Downloaded Program Files folder:
    - Click Start, Run, and enter cmd in the box and click OK. This opens a command prompt windows.
    - Enter the following command lines each followed by the enter key
    cd C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\
    attrib -r -h -s dm.inf
    del dm.inf
    attrib -r -h -s SbCIe02a.dll
    del SbCIe02a.dll
    attrib -r -h -s SbCIe02a.inf
    del SbCIe02a.inf
    exit

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    Hello =)

I have followed your instructions. When I checked the add/remove programs, I did not find, HotBar, SideStep, My WebSearch Email Plugin, My WeSearch, or MyWay . I did find SpyWare Slayer, and I removed it.

    I uninstalled Avast.

I did find speer.inf and deleted it. There was also speer.pnf, I did not delete this.

SbCle02a.dll and Sbcle02a.inf was not found.

After following all instructions I tried to boot into normal mode. I was not able to. I got as far as the sign in page, put the password in, hit enter and was given the following error (which is what I have been getting):

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

I get a stop error code, the first set of numbers/letters seem to be always the same, but the others following it seem to be different. It then begins to do a dump of physical memory. The only way out of this is to shut the computer off, wait a min. or two and then turn it back on to boot into safe mode.

I have attached a new HJT log.

If there is any other information you need please let me know.

    Thanks

Okay! We have removed you malware issues. It would seem that your remaining problems are not malware but are probably related to a problem in the OS itself or a conflict with software or hardware drivers that are loading. You will probably have to work this in the Software Forum instead of here. But you must be more specific and provide the FULL EXACT error message and error code. You will not need to memory dump unless someone asks for it.

One thing you could try is to run msconfig and use Selective Startup. Then uncheck the 4 boxes below this option that read
    • Process SYSTEM.INI File
    • Process WIN.INI File
    • Load System Services
    • Load Startup Items
    Leave Use Original BOOT.INI selected.

Then reboot and see if you can login in Normal Boot mode. You will have limited capabilities in this mode (no internet access) but you just want to see if it will boot and if you can narrow in on the problem area. Then you can slowly enable one of those items at a time to try and locate the actual root problem.
