I am about to go nuclear on this Hard Drive!

Ok so I have an external 3 TB Seagate GoFlex Desktop Hard Drive. It has been giving me some real problems lately. First off, whenever I transfer extremely large files (~40 GB and up), it will stop transferring part way through and just pause. Causing me to have force quit out of the finder. Upon relaunching the finder, the finder will not load up unless I either do a hard reboot or unplug the drive. Also when booting up or shutting down/restarting the drive can't be plugged in otherwise it will just take a really long time to "load". I recenty formatted the drive, and used First Aid on the drive, hoping the problems would go away, but they didn't.

Right now I'm using the drive to store my video projects on because the rest of my externals are full. So whenever I go to use Adobe Premeire Pro CS6, something always goes wrong cause the application not to respond. For example I clicked on the import window, and rainbow circle of death came up. I waited 20 or so minutes before I said **** it and shutdown the application and unplugged the drive.

I am using a 2010 17in. Macbook Pro with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor, 8 GB of 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB Graphics Card. I am running Mountain Lion.

I'm not sure if I supplied enough information for anyone to diagnose this problem, so please let me know what more I need to add. If someone could help tell me what is wrong with my hard drive and how to solve some of these issues it would be really appreciative.

This is a windows forum I'm not sure how many replies you'll get? I don't know of any mac tools to test a seagate hard drive, Seatools the windows standard test won't work on macs either even if you run the dos version and a bunch of other work around's according to the seagate forum.

If you have access to a windows computer though run Seatools diagnostic suite to check the health of the drive-

    http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

Run check disk in windows also or mac's file checking diagnostic.

Since it's only large files time could be a factor so disable all your power saving features, make sure drive isn't getting too warm to the touch during a large transfer, you can check the hard drive temp in windows with Speedfan, again during a large transfer.
