Can someone please tell me...

if one of these things on the back of my computer is a firewire port and if so how do I tell if it is 4 pin or 6 pin??

I recently purchased a new camcorder for the hubby and we are gonna hook it up to the computer and try to burn the video onto dvd.

I have a dell diminsion 4600. not sure what most of the ports are for on the back of the computer!

The 2 ports underneath the monitor cable connection are indeed Firewire ports. I believe the 4 or 6 pins refers to the cable end which attaches to your camera. You'd be best taking your camcorder to a hardware store and telling them you need a Firewire cable to connect it to your pc, and let them see the camera and what connection it needs.

could you possibly tell me what the round one and the white one are that are next to the monitor cable??

The white one is a DVI port, another way of connecting to flat panel monitors (most are done with standard VGA cables, others use DVI). The round one looks like a video in connection, but I'm not quite sure as I never use it or pay attention to it myself.

 

The round connection between the video connections is called 'S-Video' and can used to display on some TV's and HDTV's/LCD/Plasma that also have S-Video capability....
