Can someone recommend a good codec pack?

I'm looking for a good, legit codec pack that has both encoders and decoders in it. Most of the codec packs I've come across have a huge number of decoders but hardly as many encoders. I've been using a huge codec pack that's getting on my nerves because I thought it was great until the video editing program I use keeps telling me that the codec I'm using is a hacked or illegal version of the real codec. The videos will sometimes play poorly or not at all in certain video players on my computer because of the hacked codecs. It's my own fault for doing that, I know.

I'd like a LEGIT codec pack with the REAL codecs to encode and decode audio and video.

I've looked at some of the codec packs on majorgeeks and noticed that the codec packs offered are mostly the decoder codecs.

Anyone know of any good codec packs?

    Thanks in advance.

Doesn't matter now. I've found one on my own that I like.

    Bwah?

It's the K-Lite Codec Pack Full. It's got the encoding and decoding that I wanted, the main codecs like DivX and Xvid and it allows windows media player to play the Divx and Xvid movies instead of me using my DivX player. I hated the DivX player and am glad I can get rid of it.

And that ends todays lesson on codec packs. I hope you all learned something today.;) :D

I'm just trying out my DVD burner for the first time on movies, and reading about codecs and things.

    That's why I asked.
Thanks Colonel, missed you around here. Welcome back. ;) Bazza

    I was missed. Thank you.

I thought you were just joking around about wanting me to tell you which codec pack I got. The K-Lite Codec Pack Full is good. I use a program called VirtualDub to encode and edit my video files. It's a great freeware program. You may have it or have heard of it but I'll set up a link anyway since you're going to be playing around with your DVD burner.

Just pick a mirror and download the zip file.

Thanks, Colonel, for the additional info. I've only got to the stage of ripping a few of my DVD movies to my hard drive. Next step is to convert that stuff to a DVD. Still learning, and experimenting. Bazza
