Ok, i will give you my system specs first p4 3.0E @ 3.3 800 fsb HT 1mb L2 cache, 6800GT AGP8X, 1 gb of ram 500W psu, Asus p4p800-e mobo, can someone one plz tell me why my frame rates in counter strike source and in HL2 are so horrid.......my pc runs COD2, Quake 4, Halo ect. Perfectly even at high settings but god man i put all my settigns on low in HL2 including lowest resoultion and the frame rates im getting are like 15-25 during combat, its even worse with source.......the only i can think of is the drivers for the video card are bad for HL2 or something but thats all i can think of esp since i can play every other game smooth....for example Q4 all high settings highest resoulution at 60 fps, halo highest settings benchmarked at 120 FPS during intense multiplayer game play, COD2 running very nicely at 40-45fps and for COD2 that is very very nice...........but HL2 i have no clue and its really been bothering me BTW my video card is a BFG 6800GT OC incase manufacturer and ocing is the problem.....can someone please help me?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

First idea, don't overclock the CPU.

    You asked if someone knew.

HL2 and an overclocked CPU isn't a good mix, it's the most obvious thing.

If you don't want to, then don't play it.

im not trying to be hardheaded or anything....but can you explain why ive seen 10-15 fps increase with an oced cpu.......ive tried playing with it not oced and it didnt do as well.......benchmarked it same level on HL2 and on source video Stress test......ill check this again and if you can give me a couple mins ill post what the bench marks for the stress test are

I'm not here or expert enough to discuss the merits of overclocking. We have an overclocking forum if you want to ask.

I'm not going to go from guess to guess, in the hope you will try something.

All I can do is use the information you provided and give you the most obvious thing.

Try running HL2 without an overclocked CPU and post back.

If not, I won't go further. Someone else may...

ok i did the Video Stress test with and w/o ocing.......with the cpu oced it came up as 114.36 fps..........without ocing it came up as 110.47 this isnt the real answer to this problem tho considering that the real problems occur in the heat of battle. fps going as low is 15 is a huge drop from 114 or 110 fps
