I recently did a very stupid thing. I was doing a virus scan with Avast in Safe mode and discovered an adware virus. I deleted it without thinking. Now I can`t access the internet and my computer will not let me do a system restore. It attempts to and then says that no changes were made. All my other programs work fine and my computer shows that I am connected to the internet just unable to open a browser window. I need the internet desperately as I am trying to finish my term paper in a country with no English libraries! Is there any way to reinstall an internet browser or do I have to wipe my system clean and reinstall everything. I have a Windows XP system. Oh, a window popped up saying there was a problem with the dot something or other. Sorry, it only popped up once and there were a lot of numbers attached to the word dot. Not sure if that helps at all but heres to hoping
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. That program looks like it would work but I can`t download it onto my computer because I can`t access the internet. I am currently using my work computer that does not allow downloads. I am stuck in a catch 22 here! Is there anything else I could do???

Sorry about that. Try these then>

    Try this to repair IE
    Start/Run/regsvr32 urlmon.dll

    OR

    To reinstall IE
    Start/run/rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:\windows\inf\ie.inf

If Hipsters advice does not work (they normally do, he's our own Melbourne Wonder), then I would suggest that you try Run/msconfig then launch system restore to a date prior to your little fopah, this should set you back to before the mistake.
