Can viruses be detected using old AV software?

I volunteer in this Volunteer Welfare Organization. Although the staff use desktop computers, only 3 computers used by the managers have access to the Internet.

The rest of the staff use old donated Pentium II systems with either Windows 98 or 2000 OS.

Recently, I tried to copy an office document in .xls from the office desktop's PC to my home personal pc (backup purpose) using a floppy disk. My McAfee AV detected "X97M/Laroux.au.gen" in one of the files in the floppy.

Many of the Org. PCs do not have any AV software installed. Some have outdated AV installed that have since expired...anyhow, there is no Internet connection for most of this PCs.

Question: Is there any way checking or deleting any infected files in a PC that has outdated AV software using whatever(?) method...old fashion or otherwise.
Or, some AV software that I can download from the Internet that fits into a 1.4Mb floppy that I can copy across to the org PCs?

Any AV needs to have the latest virus definitions to be effective.

Stinger will fit on a floppy and clean 45 or so common viruses, don't know about the one you listed.

If you have access to a CD burner I highly recommend a good freebie like Avast Home. Much better to be sure than to wonder...

You can use WinZip to span the Avast download across a couple of floppies, or you can get a file splitter such as katana.

Then you can download Avast (which I recommend also). Put it on about 6 disks and there you have it. Of course, you will have to visit avast.com to download updates for those computers that do not have internet access.
