can vista create a software RAID and install itself on it?

I have a new hp dv9000t with 2 120 gb 7200 rpm hard drives that i would like to have in RAID 1. I'm pretty sure the laptop doesn't have a raid controller built into it, and i was thinking i could just take the main harddrive create a striped pair with the 2nd one and windows would copy everything for me and create a pair.

obviously not as easy. could i re-install vista and tell it to format both drives, stripe them, and then install? i don't remember this much functionality in XP installs...

any ideas peeps?
