Win 7 32 bit can run on 1gb, 64 bit requires 2gb. The system requirements are that simple.

    Mine is 64bit.

So it takes a little more ram than the 32 bit windows does. But i could probably push it lower than 1 GB for a 64 bit bit os.

But can you make is run on less ram any windows is the question. The Answer is yes.

You just couldn't do much with it, so I don't see the point.

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
    • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor*
    • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
    • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
    • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.
Windows 10 has the same requirements as windows 7.
    • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster.
    • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
    • Free hard disk space: 16 GB.
    • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver.
    • A Microsoft account and Internet access.
So in my opinion is it worth up grading not really by much.

Most people can't and most people with a PC don't spend exclusive PC time playing games.
They use it for shopping, banking and streaming.
I'm not saying a user can't use it in the way you do, but it's not common.

I really liked Windows 7, but, I've moved on. I prefer Windows 10. Win 10 is an outstanding OS.

Let's see if you can get windows 10 lower than 1 gig.

I understand that some people have moved on to 10 but a lot are like me and don't trust it.

That's literally meaningless. Why would anyone even want to do that? There is no economic reason to do it and no practical reason. It's a pointless straw man suggestion.
Trust doesn't come into it since issues related to privacy are very well known and easily rectified, and there is no evidence that people are refusing to buy or use systems with Win10.
The mass complaints when Windows 2000 and ME came out (let alone XP!) make the whinges about Win 10 pale in comparison.

    Hi

Windows may need a specific RAM amount to run ok or good, but if you have say 8GB ram or more you want to use it all as Windows will run better using ram than a HDD swap file, so if ram is not used the HDD is so slower, now I think what this thread maybe about is lowering junk apps from running and using ram which is always a positive.
