Hi. I'm not sure if this is a malware issue or if this is a hardware issue. It could be a virus that did this. The problem I'm having is that as of three days ago, I can no longer connect to the internet via DSL. My DSL is connected to my router. It is a Linksys router. The router seems to work fine and the weird thing is the router still works meaning we are still getting wireless access to the internet. I say it may be a viral problem because about a week ago some software was downloaded by someone and it caused the computer to keep freezing. After running malwarebytes, it found several PUP entries and browser hijackers. I have contacted my ISP and they suggested trying my DSL on another computer. I did that and still will not connect. So I am thinking it is a problem on their end. They want me to pay them $85 before the will come fix it. I just wanted to know what you guys thought before I did that. I asked your hardware guys what they thought and they think it could be my Ethernet port. However, I'm not sure b/c there are other issues with my computer such as my services. One such as "peer networking grouping" will not start and neither will the others that have dependencies on that service. I get an error when I try to start them. Also my computer will not create a restore point and it won't let me do a system restore. Also, I tried to do the scan with Hitman Pro and it just freezes up every time. It shows "Identified Threats:0 (Traces:69)" It never would finish the scan. I was just wondering if you could take a look and tell me if you see any problems here. :confused You guys are always really helpful to me and I think you are great. Thanks in advance.

I apologize for sending the incorrect log to you. As for hitman it's a no go. I have tried a few times in safe mode and otherwise and all it does is freeze after a few minutes.

Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode. Any other mode is primarily used for troubleshooting and diagnostic purposes. You should look into some third party software to control start up's.

    globalupdate Helper <<< Uninstall this

    Download and run OTM.

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    Code:
    :Files
    C:\Users\Becky\AppData\Local\oedkbgvvnwi2ywf
    C:\Users\Becky\AppData\Local\updanager
    C:\Users\Becky\AppData\Local\WinKav
    C:\Users\Becky\AppData\Local\ZeastOptimiser
    C:\Users\Becky\AppData\Local\ZeastOptimiserUn
    C:\ProgramData\B0FFCDD9-5261-4e59-B29A-17A4FABDEBAB
    C:\Windows\System32\029B560A371F4E00AB32838EBC01B9E7

    C:\Windows\System32\tmp.reg
    C:\Windows\System32\tmp.txt

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into a text file to ATTACH into your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.
Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running!

Use Revo Uninstaller to see if you can find global update helper. (See newfiles.log in MGlogs.zip, towards the end - you can see it's still installed. )

Do you see this file? If so delete it, reboot the machine and then let me know whether it stayed deleted.

I suggest that you try running the below to make some repairs to Windows. Maybe this will help.

Be patient while doing the below. The fixes can sometimes take quite awhile to run. Especially the permissions repairs. It may be best to kick it off and goto bed or do something else. It is better not to run anything while the repairs are going on.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Repair MSI (Windows Installer)
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished. If it does not then reboot it yourself.

I think you will have to post in the software forum regarding that. Any more malware problems?
