    I usually use notepad for most stuff, or if really complicated like image maps and such i may use frontpage & or dream weaver to code just that section and copy the code to notepad. Seems to have less clutter that way. Recently was introduced to NVU which seems to be a decent editor as well.

    I find Textpad to be useful http://www.textpad.com/ There are pop-ups that ask you to buy, but they only come up when you try to save every so often.
