Sadly most all of us have family or friends who now have or had cancer. Pray for a cure.

Even though that article is about 7 years old, there has been much and continuing research to suggest that the massive increase in toxins in everyday use, especially since the industrial revolution, is simply dangerous to human health.
Every product manufactured for home use alone is riddled with toxins. That's how they have been manufactured. The floor coverings we walk on, the furniture we sit on, the beds we sleep in and the appliances we use, along with so much of our food too.
Most of the medical research now seems to focus on why some people are less prone to cancers than others, so genetic research focuses there but it doesn't actually help anyone avoid it, aside from lifestyle factors such as not smoking, eating more healthy whole foods and taking regular exercise. In countries where eating mass-produced meat products, for example, has increased because of economic growth (China is a good example) the illnesses associated with that have escalated.

Interesting. It makes sense, as the average person often handles a lot of chemicals in their day to day life.

Seriously interesting hypothesis and can see the direction its taking in being a viable answer, I agree with Max so not going to cover his great points again, but in genetics its weird as say for instance you can have a bad diet or drink and smoke but never get a specific cancer (or one relating to what is perceived as relating to a lifestyle choice) but you may never have bad diet or drink/smoke and get a related cancer. Which leads me to what likely has changed globally or locally that may increase the risk, is it we are too sterile (bio hand washes etc) is it toxic fumes, materials, pecisides in food. Is it a combination of things from industrialisation and ecomomic growth.

I see this in eye disease in countries you'd think had great diets say Japan and China, that diabetes is increasing, it it likely down to changes in lifestyle to a more western type one, it also in the case of Hing Kong (only as I know the data on that one) is that diabetes is a class type issue, affluent diabetics pay for screening but have a lover diabetic retinopathy (DR) level (likely good food and life) but dont always attend screening, the poorer in society have free screening and turn up but have a higher level of DR but worse diet and lifestyle. So like the cancer article you can see similar in its likely lifestyle that affects our heath alot, sad part is in many cases we cannot control it like polution, too many plastics packaging our food, pecisides and industrial production of food (non organic) etc

A friend of mine has just been diagnosed as lung cancer. Probably 15 years younger than me. We've both been smokers and also exposed to many different insulations and adhesives used with these insulation. And we're in company's that have 100 employees. Good guy. Great person. Family devoted. With all the wrong we all do, whether on purpose or accidental, why does something like this always happen to good people? I've had a full life and my own medical problems could have already taken me out and I accept that it may come today. But so many are young and full of life and with so many plans, then this ball drops out of no where. How do they handle this and what can we say?

Imandy, hope your friend has a good prognosis and treatment, wish them well. As to your question I dont know its a crap situation in life, I just think we can only offer support and positivity to anyone with a medical condition, a friend of mine her aunt had breat cancer surgety yesterday so no awaiting results and then its radio therapy, but you must keep positive.

Man didn't invent cancer, but he sure exacerbated it. I've said for years that I don't worry much about climate change . . . climate has been bouncing back and forth long, long before even our earliest ancestors were on the scene. What gives me concern are all the synthetic chemicals and substances we have invented, never before seen in the environment, not a natural product of the environment, and now loose in the environment for over a century and doing heaven knows what damage to the flora and fauna.

There is no way to know the long term effects of these substances . . . we haven't had that long of a time to measure the impact. Increased cancer rates are no doubt just one symptom of the genetic damage being done. Scary thing to ponder.

I've had multiple family members die from cancer - the most recent being my older brother who died some years ago at the age of 46. Dread disease, and not a lot a person can do to prevent it most of the time.
