Cannot Access External Hard Drive

I have a WD 500gb external hard drive. I have not been able to access it for a while and it even slows down my computer when it is connected. When I try to open it I get an error message: (Drive:) is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect.
It does not show up in Disk Management. I cannot access properties of the drive.
I switched cables and ran a chkdsk and then I get a File record segment is unreadable for different files until is stops and say Snapshot was deleted. CHKDSK cannot continue.
    It is spinning though.

I'm just hoping I can get the data off of it.

I have come across a website called www.easeus.com that claims it can recover lost data from a WD ex HD. Is this website legit or is it a scam? Does anyone know of a trusted program or tool to recover data from this useless WD ex HD?

Have you tired taking it out of the case and plugin it directly into a desktop computer board? That is worth a try if your data is really important to you.

Not all drives can be plugged directly into the computer.

    See this
the USB port is soldered to the hard drive. Removing the case would still give you the same connection as having it inside the case.

    6 of my 7 Western Digital portable hard drives ( 2 @ 500 GB, 2 @ 1TB and 2@ 2TB) look like the drive in the video.

I took it out of it's case and hooked it up to computer, still more of the same error messages. EaseUS can't even see it. So far just stuck at "loading the disk information, please wait..." screen.
Can a professional take it apart and be able to salvage some data? There is years worth of pictures and music and recordings that I would love not to lose.

Professional data recovery is usually expensive---but if important enough, it is worth considering it.
Otherwise , download a Linux distro to use as a live distro, and it is possible to recover them yourself- burn it to a disc, or usb , and run as live system from there (don't install it on the computer) You can look into the hard drive, and copy data and save it.

    Scroll down to
Creating a Bootable Kali USB Drive on Windows
    1. Plug your USB drive into an available USB port on your Windows PC, note which drive designator (e.g. “F:\”) it uses once it mounts, and launch the Win32 Disk Imager software you downloaded.
    2. Choose the Kali Linux ISO file to be imaged and verify that the USB drive to be overwritten is the correct one. Click the “Write” button.
      http://docs.kali.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/kali-usb-install-windows.png
    3. Once the imaging is complete, safely eject the USB drive from the Windows machine. You can now use the USB device to boot into Kali Linux.

You can look for other versions that work similarly - there are several LINUX distro's out there.

Ok, sorry for the delay. I have kali up and running from a usb. How do I check to see if I can get files from my external HD? I'm not linux savvy.

I have not used it for a very long time, but you need to read through the posts,or, put the question on their site- Unless someone at majorgeeks has used it recently.....You will need to read a few posts, around the web, so as not to come unstuck when copying.
At one Linux site, (I think it was similar some time ago, when I tried it)

You will need a usb thumb drive of the approximate size of the data you will be copying, 32 gb should do. When the cd arrives, place it in the cd drive and boot your machine, you should see a brief comment about a "boot menu press " during the boot process. Press that key and when you are shown a menu , select to boot from the internal cd-rom drive. Let it come up completely. Insert your usb drive and it will open in a window. On the desktop, you will see an icon about "Computer". Open this and locate your harddrive, the name may vary. Double click to open it. Search the folders to find your pictures and documents and drag them to the USB window to copy.

There is a tool 'Safecopy' I trust this tool can do your work. what you have to do with tool is:
First of all you have to run fdisk -l command this will show you your all partition. your partition should look like this /dev/sdb2 at last run this command safecopy source partition destination. Example root@kali:~# safecopy /dev/sdb2 /root/home
it takes little time to recover data but it works
I hope it will help you kindly visit this Click Here

I got desperate and tried the freezer trick. I think it might have killed my HD. It was spinning after I took it out of the freezer and shortly stopped. Damn. Thanks for all the advice guys/gals. I think I'll have to bite the bullet and save up $ to take it to a data expert.

UNLUCKY- Sometimes you need luck with the freezer trick- as you have to catch it just right, and I found it has to be done when the disk is around room temperature, and the length of time frozen....
