Cannot access the Internet

    Hi, I've got a problem that I was hoping someone could help me with...

    It all started when somehow, my dad's computer got infected with "Malware Doctor". It appeared immediately on start-up and nearly rendered the PC inoperable. It showed that it was doing some kind of scan, but could not be killed. Internet connectivity was disabled. It disallowed the Task Manager from appearing, and prevented the PC from booting into safe mode (it showed an empty blue screen and Ctrl-Alt-Del did nothing). It also slowed down the PC immensely. With difficulty, I eventually managed to run a program called "FixPolicies" and managed to get into safe mode properly. I then ran "SUPERAntiSpyware" and "combofix", and this eventually seemed to remove the malware and allow XP to load successfully without any malware appearing. (I really wasn't sure what I was doing at the time).

    The Internet connection was also restored but unfortunately, this was only temporary. Some other anti-malware tool that my dad was running reported another infection (I was not there at the time, unfortunately), and it proceeded to remove the infection. A side effect was that the Internet connection was hosed again.

    So this is where we are today. XP appears to be running OK, but there is no network connectivity. There are two "Network Connections" in the Control Panel, and both are completely empty. All of my network adapters are disabled in the Device Manager. I tried various tricks to restore my network connection, but nothing has worked, so I suspect there are some remnants of malware that are affecting it, still.

    I then stumbled across this site, and ran the recommended battery of tests. The only thing that I couldn't get to work was RootRepeal, which keeps crashing with a blue screen of death. I did also try to restore my network connections by using SuperAntiSpyeware and using the "Repair broken Network Connection" feature, but that had no effect. Apart from the network connection problem, I see no strange malware symptoms, and most of the tools I'm running are showing a clean system. I did quite a few searches on Google before I got here, and I can't find an obvious solution.

    Anyway, any help would be very much appreciated. I've posted all my logs as instructed on this site. Please suggest what I should try.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Sorry. I did actually collect and have the logs when I first posted, but obviously I did something wrong with attaching them. Here goes again. (Just a reminder: I have no logs from RootRepeal as it crashes on me).

    By the way, I tried restoring my network connection by using the Winsock XP Fix 1.2 tool that everyone seems to be having luck with, but it didn't resolve my problem at all. Also, I tried the "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" command but it failed, too. The Network Connections list is still empty. If the TCP/IP stack is corrupted or gone, I have no idea how to restore it. I'm still wondering whether it's malware that's blocking it...

    Let's start with this;

    Please refrain from making any changes to your system (updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might prolong handling your log and make the job for both of us more difficult.

    Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10"
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11"
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
