Cannot click on email links

I have a new HP lap top I am running Windows XP with service pack 2, using IE Browser and Outlook Express for my email. I tried Foxfire and do not like it. The problem I am having is when someone sends me an email and it has a web address to click on nothing happens when I click on it. I have to copy the shortcut or copy and paste the web address in my browser. Also I am getting a lot of spy ware and I am using MS AntiSpyware, Spy Bot, and Browser Hijack Blaster. I have at least 12 each time I run the spy removal programs is there a program that keeps these out of the machine altogether? I did not have thie problem on my PC and I have everything on the lap top as I had on it. I am also using AVG anti virus. Thanks for any help you can give.

See if this works for the links in Outlook Express.

Start Internet Explorer
Select the Tools > Internet Options menu
Select the [Programs] tab
Look for a checkbox labelled "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser"
If this checkbox is not ticked, then this is the cause of the problem, so tick it!
Click OK
Close Internet Explorer
Re-open Internet Explorer
Close Outlook Express
Re-open Outlook Express and try a link
