Cannot Connect To Internet In Safe Mode (Pre-Hijack This Steps)

Hello--

I am following all of the steps before I post a HiJack This log file to the forum.

When I get to the steps telling me to do on-line scans (Trend Micro & Symantec), I reboot in safe mode with networking, but...I am not able to connect to the internet.

I check my Network Connections and my LAN Connection says it's enabled
(CNET PRO200WL PCI FAST ETHERNET)
but I do not see my WAN MINIPORT connection. In order to connect to the internet, I have to right click that and "connect". But it is not in my Network Connections in Safe Mode. It is there (as normal) in regular boot.

I ended up running the on-line (trend micros/symantec) scans in normal mode--it was the only way to get them!

Again...I have been very methodical with the steps given to me. I printed them out. Please help.

Did you run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

if not, please run them. If you already did then complete the steps below.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

- Download HijackThis 1.99.1

- Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

- Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

- Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

- Run HijackThis and save your log file.

- Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).
