I just started having a problem. The computer starts to select things on its own. At times it keeps on selecting different tabs continuously. Opens up other pages at other times.

Trying to type into the URL address bar is difficult. I type but it goes back spaces on its own. I cannot type fast enough to get my title inputted.

I tried to log in the forum and I can type the username ok but when I tried to type in my password, I cannot finish typing in the word before it moves back several spaces on its own. What can it be???

    Hi moondoggy,

Do you have a two-way firewall installed on your computer? If not, please go to the list of free recommended firewalls at How to Protect Yourself from Malware and download and install Zone Alarm free.

    Hi moondoggy,

The firewall you have is fine. The Windows Firewall intercepts incoming connections to your computer. A two-way firewall also keeps watch over which programs on your computer are trying to go out with their connections. Things like your antivirus program will go out on a regular basis to pick up updates, but the Windows Firewall only detects incoming traffic.

I wanted to know about your firewall to try and narrow down what the problem might be that you're having. Do you have a programmable mouse? Wireless mouse? The kind of behavior you're describing sounds like the result of a prankster, someone who might have gained control over your mouse, rather than a malware problem. Also, we've encountered problems like you describe through mouse connections within a house. If you don't have a wired mouse, would it be possible for you to check your computer for this problem by borrowing a mouse that has a cable?

    hi,

I currently have a wired mouse to the pc. Should I try another wired mouse? I am not using a wireless mouse with this laptop.

    Hi moondoggy,

It sounds like there's either a malfunction of your mouse, or someone is hacking your computer.

If there is anything about your mouse which is programmed at installation time or which has hotkeys or anything associated with programming it, then try a really simple cheap mouse (preferably wired) and see if you still have the same problem.

If that does not help, then please go through the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST and attach the requested logs. It may be necessary to run some rootkit scans as well, but the above set of instructions will suffice for the moment.

    Thanks.
