    Hi,

I have a couple of files (one Mpeg and one Jpeg) that I am unable to delete or move. If I try to delete it I get the message "unable to delete, this program is in use by another person or program". I am fairly certain that no program is running that could be using it and I have tried to delete it immediately after a reboot to try and ensure that no programs are running that could be using it. I also know that in a web view window a media preview player means that the file is technically in use. I have made sure that this is not enabled but I still cannot delete this file. I have tried changing how the files are displayed in the window (ie as icons or as "details" form) as this worked in the past. Can anyone suggest what the problem may be and a possible solution?

    Thanks,

    Alex

The problem is just what you said. The machine regards the media files as in use, even though you have done what you can to make sure they're not. It happens.

The easiest cure? Download and use this tiny file called DelLater.
    DelLater HERE
[Put the executable anywhere in one of your folders (I prefer putting it on C:, the root, for easy, fast access) and right-click it and create a shortcut. Now right click the shortcut and choose Properties, and add (in the path line) a space and then the path to the file you want to delete. OK. Then double-click the shortcut, and when the popup confirms the file you have consigned to death, reboot. During the reboot, the file will be deleted.]

The shortcut path line looks like this for my tvDebug.log file:
    C:\dellater.exe C:\Windows\Internet Logs\tvDebug.log

That'll get 'em. And painlessly, too. :p

    Oh, Welcome to MG, kdum!

To prevent it from happening again, you might try the registry tweak in SirCanealot's post in this thread. :)
