Several months ago I installed a scanner from Visioneer, and the software that came with it was Scansoft. It did not work well on my system, and I decided to uninstall it and just use the XP default software. When I uninstalled it, a couple of files were left bihind, one that deleted easily, and the other was called Visioneer OneTouch, and when I tried to uninstall it, is missing the Install log file. It won't delete for I don't know what reason, not even one file at a time.

How do I get rid of this software. I have already reinstalled the software once, and it didn't put a new install log in it. Any suggestions? Thankyou, gents.

Great! Two good programs to delete the unwanted. I downloaded it and I already Owe beer on MoveOnBoot. It worked just fine. I will keep them both on my system for future use. I have had more than one file in the past that I could not get rid of because the Install.log was missing, or the file would not boot up closed. These should eliminate that problem. Thanks

Well, if you get here the beers on me any way. But, back to business, I have a resultant problem from deleting this file that I can't resolve. After I deleted the file I ran RegScrub and Ccleaner Issues and deleted the Registry Global entry's to the files. Everytime I reboot, I get a message from Spybot S&D, that says S&D "has Detected an important registry change" and asks me to allow or disallow it.

I pressed the allow several times, and each time I reboot S&D gives the same message. Finally I hit "remember this change" and I don't see it but I still get the acknowledgment window that say's"Resident allowed the change of OneTouch Monitor(Catagory System Startup Global Entry) based on your white list.", every time I boot.

Now, is this "white list" in the Spybot Program, or is it in the Windows Programing, and how do I change it? I would very much like to stop getting messages that I have changed something that I know I have changed permanantly. Any suggestions? Thanks

LOL Right on ...luckly for me i live in oregon mmmm beer,,,, ,,,, as for your new problem thats a knew one, i haven't had or heard of that before, you may want to try and uninstall spybot if thats what is causing the trouble ,, ... also U may want to go to your advanced setting in spybot S&D and check the ignore products, ignore cookies, ignore file extension, ignore single entries.... these should only be marked if u need the entry to run a product or registry but only look for your "OneTouch Monitor" entry and either uncheck it or delete it if u can but u may not be able to,,,, also be sure not to screw around with the advance settings to much and to turn it off when your done if u don't know what u are doing.

 try this first before u try my other methods ,,, lol also i looked into what a white list is,,, this is what i found out: a white list is a list of accepted items usally has to deal with email messages for your spam filter. if u got one u may want to try to look into your spam filter.

Ok, Jett man, I will check these suggestions out and see. Hopefully they will help. Does sound like it might be a spybot list. So, will start there. If it works out well, I' put the beer on ice for you and give you a call. Thanks :)

Oh, one more thing I forgot, I don't have a spam blocker other than my server, and they don't block their own crap. Do I need to tell you who that is?

Alright, I am back, and the end result is as I suspected, and you stated, that the easiest and fastest way to get rid of the spybot message was to uninstall and reinstall Spybot S&D.

I went to the Advanced Settings, and thought that if I was sure of what the name of the deleted global registry entry was, that I could enter it in the "Ignore System internals" list, but wasn't sure that the name was exactly what the notice showed, and I had an issue with my "allow/disallow" interface not displaying right anyway, so I decided that I would just uninstall and reinstall the whole Spybot S&D program, and see if the other issue went with it. I don't currently know about the interface, but the change message has stopped appearing, so, that's resolved. Hopefully the other is too, but I won't know until I make a registry change that requires my OK.

Now, reinstalled and re-updated, and works fine as far as I know. Thanks :)

BTW, instead of dragging and dropping the file to MoveOnBoot, it adds a context menu when you install it, so you can just right-click the file in question and select "Delete on next boot" or whatever.

You two guys must be from Boston? :)

I knew a guy from Boston once. Even went there. Those people are crazy. They will drive at 30 or 40 mph on one lane snow covered streets with cars lined up on both sides and no idea of what is coming at you from the other direction(we are not talking one way streets either), one little slip and wham, it's all over.

My Ocean is a lot warmer. We get rain mostly, not so much snow. Never heard of a Boston, Oregon. ;)

For some reason, I've found that removing some stubborn software can be done in Safe Mode.

Safe Mode works for files that are "in use", but won't work for programs that are missing the Install log file.

That's when you can either try reinstalling, then removing the program, or going through and manually deleting them.

Yes, to both of you, thanks, that is very good information to know for future reference. It would make sense that safe mode would allow you to delete some that are inuse scince only minimal software is booted. I wish I had known it earlier on another software problem I had, might have saved me some time.

I will make note of it and try it the next time I have problems uninstalling something. :)
