I am using windows XP and IE v.6.

I cannot download any files anymore... IE gives me the error 403 (HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden - You are not authorized to view this page
You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.) (and I have the administrator's right!...)

I don't know what to do and what to check...

    Thanks for your help...

    Jeppi,

Try deleteing IE's Temporary Internet files. You can do that by selecting Tools > Options, select the General tab, and then click the Delete Files button. When you are prompted to delete all temporary Internet files, click OK.

    I tryed... Didn't work.

I also try the delete offline content option, still don't work...
I tried to delete history, still the same...
I tried the delete cookies... no change... and same error...

    Any other idea?

Cleaning Cookies and History would not help, cleaning Temp Internet Files folder...may be.

But my guess is: Internet Options > Security > Custom Level:
~ Scroll down to the 'Downloads' section and check the setting for the 'File Download', it should be enabled.

Also are you having this problem on one particular download item/site or on every different download site and file you try?

Everything is enable... including "file download"....

I have the problem on every site I am trying...

sun.com; microsoft.com... nothing works when I click on the link...

I tried to download a freeware from majorgeeks: same thing, still this error 403... The funny thing is that the address of the stuff to download appears and stays in the address box of the browser...

Something I do not understand thought is that I have a web based e-mail and I still can save the attachement of the e-mails on my desktop by clicking right and doing the "save target as" command.

When I do that (save target as) on a link of a web page, it does not work.

Also, I added microsoft.com in my trusted sites and re-tried... Still does not work...

    Very strange... AND annoying!

    Thanks for your help...

It is interresting... I was successfull in downloading after shuting down my firewall (ZoneAlarm Pro).

I guess I don't know what kind of setting I should set it to allow file downloading... Any idea?

    Thanks for your help...

OH yeah an overzealous firewall would do it but I do not think you'd have to shutdown ZoneAlarm Pro everytime you need to download something. I am not sure what settings you need to modify but there is gotta be something within ZoneAlarm Pro's options that would allow you to remedy this. I, unfortunately, have not used ZoneAlarm PRO version yet to give you the exact info, but hang in there there is gotta be someone who knows about what I am talking about...if I install it on my test machine and have time to test it within the next day or so I will let you know as wel... ;)
