Cannot find Domain Server

Hi geeks, I have a Windows 2000 AD network running with XP
and 98 clients. The Domain controller is the DNS server.
(SO I think). I have a 98se Machine that will not join the
domain. Error says "No domain server was available to
validate your password. You were logged on without
password validation. Some Network services may not be
available."
Now I have the computer account for the machine created in
AD and the user name and password are correct. This PC was
on the domain before. Dont know why it is not joining or
cannot find Domain server now. Still has connection to the
internet. It can ping other PCs and the server but cannot
browse the domain name. Any help please? Thanks

Solunds like a DNS issue to me, check and make sure that you are running DNS On the server and that all the clients are set up to use that as their DNS server. Remember that DNS is essential for AD to work correctlly.

Kodo, does this mean I should apply the client extension to 98 machine. I do not have this issue with the other 98 machine in the domain. Although it would be a good idea for both.

 

Also, the DNS zone is AD integrated and set for secure updates only. Is the DHCP supposed to update for the 98 machines? I am running a small Netgear router (since this network is a practice network only) and it is acting as the DHCP. The 98's are getting automatic IP's. Can I set the 98 machine for static DNS and still get IP address automatically? Or is this the issue?

 

Go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and update all the windows 98 machines, this could fix everything.
