Cannot get in to windows (blue screen)

hi,

i've got a compaq presario R3000 laptop running on windows xp which has crashed for weeks now. i've got a blue screen but i can't get the message as it flashes so quickly and reboots. i can't get into safe mode; i've tried to get into recovery console, but it says ntldr is missing.

i can access using ubcd4win (cd), tried to follow your guidelines but it couldn't run your suggested programs - since i couldn't get into windows, i only tried if it would work to download those programs from one PC and save them to this laptop, then run them while inside ubcd4win environment - but it seemed unsuccessful.

i've tried using the programs installed in ubcd4win but no virus or error was found. i also tried the recovery console option of ubcd4win and it has found and corrected some problems but still the same problem stands.

i know it's not a new laptop but i hope my young son could still use this to play his favorite games, watch videos and work on some computer projects. i would really appreciate your help, guys!

Take a look at this thread (the original issues were apparently never resolved, but the correct procedures are there), and let us know which steps work and which don't.

Since you can boot to a CD/DVD, you might try a Linux distro as a live environment, see if the machine is working hardware-wise. Mint and Ubuntu are a couple of good ones.
