I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 and recently reinstalled the software. At the same time I bought a Logitech MK700 keyboard mouse combo. It installed Setpoint 4.8 alright, but the mouse had problems clicking on the Windows Vista Welcome screen. The Logitech support staff recommended updating to Setpoint 6.1, however, I have been unable to install it on my computer. The problem is that the Setpoint program requires that version 4.8 be uninstalled , first. I have tried uninstalling the 4.8 using various uninstaller applications, including iobit and Vista. I have also disabled the antivirus, all with no luck. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Use Revo Uninstaller to remove v 4.8 (it uses the programs own uninstaller then goes further and finds all the registry entries).

Caution: if you are told to reboot, cancel the reboot until Revo is done and when Revo shows you a tree with registry entries DO NOT click the delete all button. You need to expand and only put checks/ticks in fron of items that are in bold type; nothing else. Once the bold items are selected, then click the delete key.

Thanks for your reply. I tried Revo, and it did not see the Logitech Setpoint program. I don't want to shell out 40 bucks for the more advanced features. The problem is that for all intents and purposes the program is uninstalled, however, Setpoint 6.1 still "sees" it somewhere. Next I tried reinstalling Setpoint 4.8 to see if Revo will uninstall it. The problem is version 4.8 will not install. I get the following error message: "The VC8 library was not installed correctly, please restart the machine and reinstall." At this point I am stuck. Any suggestions, anyone? Thanks.

revo doesn't see my setpoint in programs either, but it does show up in add/remove programs. have you tried uninstalling it from there? only other thing i can think of, is to locate all the folders for setpoint & manually delete them & also the registry entries, then reinstall. even unplugging the keyboard/mouse & rebooting might help or if it's wireless unplug the adaptor. ;)

The problem is I have tried to uninstall it and it doesnt show up in add/remove programs, either. Not sure what to do at this point. The Setpoint may be reading a false positive and thinking the app is there when it really isn't. Not sure how to get around this.

only other thing i can think of is try doing a system restore to a month ago or so & then try to install the new version over it. i didn't have to uninstall the older version, new just installed over it. that & browse the logitech help forums or ask their tech support? also, is it 32 or 64 bit you're trying to reinstall?

Because I just re-installed Vista, I do not want to do system restore. I will lose the updates I spent hours installing and have to redo them. I did try logitech tier 2 support. They gave me some steps to try. I will do them this evening, and if they work, I will post the steps here. Basically, he gave me the names and addresses of some folders I didn't know were there, and the location of the registry keys for Setpoint. Thanks for your input. BTW, I have the 32-bit version of Vista.

The uninstall routine given to me by Logitech tier 2 customer support did not work. I will not post that information here, as it would be misleading. If they do give me a routine that does work, I will post it to this forum, in case others are having the same problem with Setpoint.

I was finally able to install Setpoint 6.1! The problem was that Setpoint 4.8 did not uninstall correctly. In order to reinstall and uninstall Setpoint 4.8 I had to download a vc8 library from the Microsoft website, install it, but in order to install it, I had to fix a bad registry value. Once this was done, and Setpoint 4.8 was installed, I uninstalled it using Revo Uninstaller. Revo uninstalled the program successfully and found the one registry value left behind that the Setpoint uninstaller missed. I then entered safe mode and successfully installed Setpoint 6.1. If you are having the same problem, email me, and I will give you a more detailed explanation on what I did, the location of software used, etc.

Now, on to my problem with Setpoint. The mouse for the MK700 mouse+keyboard combo will not click on my Windows Vista Home Premium welcome screen. I will post details of this problem in a separate thread.

Problem solved. This was a hardware problem with a defective mouse. The mouse was replaced by Logitech and the new mouse is woreking O.K.
