Cannot install Server 2003

Hi

I have an old computer lying around that I use for trying new things on. I mainly use it to try out various Linux distros, FreeNAS, Windows Server 2003 etc.

A few days ago I tried to install Server 2003 (genuine) again, but am unable to do so. It boots from the CD, goes through license agreement, where to install, formats the drive, copies the files onto the system and then reboots. After POST it boots straight from the CD again without asking me to press any key, and restarts the installation process all over again. So went through the process again but ejected the disk after it rebooted and just got blocks of random colours and characters on the screen after POST which I have never come across before.

I had however made some changes to the hardware set up since I last installed Server 03. The floppy drive was unplugged and disabled in the BIOS, second hard drive has been added and a system fan removed.

I have tried plugging the floppy drive back in, removing the second hard drive and reseting the BIOS to defaults and nothing has worked. I have also tried installing Ubuntu which worked fine, and installing to a different drive which won't work either, along with a different installation disk.

Oh, and sometimes instead of the random colour/character screen, I get the "Invalid BOOT.INI file Booting from C:\Windows\ NTDETECT failed" message after the reboot.

I don't know if this is related, but I'm pretty sure I used to get the 'Press any key to boot from CD' message when a CD was in the drive and now it just does it without having to press a key.

Like I said, I've installed it before and thought it'd be a fairly simply problem to solve, but after being stumped for a couple of days it's annoying me now :confused
