Previously I had an issue where side by side configuration errors have basically crippled my PC. I had some friendly forum members provide options to try to fix the issue, unfortunately to no avail.

So I've been busy backing all of my information up to flickr, dropbox and my external HDD.

I go to re-install / wipe my computer and when the setup for Windows is copy files for the install I get the error code 0x80070241 - "Windows cannot copy files requested for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart installation. "

I'm running this from a legitimate copy of Windows 7 that I had purchased so its not from a torrent or a bootleg or a stolen OEM. The disc has no scratches and I get the same error whether I"m trying to wipe / install on my main 300GB drive or my secondary drive.

Could my DVD drive on my PC be crapping out or is there another way I can wipe my PC and just start from scratch?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Was the Win 7 a download or did you have the DVD? If it was a download, try burning the DVD again at the slowest speed and make sure to verify the burn.

Just because the DVD has no scratches, doesn't mean it's not corrupted. I bought Encyclopedia Brittanica from a large software retailer, and within 6 months the disc was corrupted.

I suggest you scan the DVD with a program like Nero DiscSpeed. As per the MajorGeeks download page it does work with Windows 7. Softpedia has a newer version.

Also, scan a disc you know is working to rule out the DVD drive.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I attempted to complete the install via booting from the DVD directly. Thankfully that worked and didn't get the error and I just switched back to booting from my HDD after the install. Maybe my registry and everything was sooo completely fubarred that it just didn't even want to get formatted. I had to delete my windows.old file to free up my HDD space but I'm back up and running.

Thanks again for your time and thanks given to both.
