Cannot move message in Outlook Express

I am using Outlook Express over GMail with XP Pro. Before today I would remove a message by moving it from the In/All folder to the Trash folder. Today all that happens is the message is marked as if it were deleted, it is not moved, and when I start Outlook Express again it is still there as if nothing happened. When I use the ISP email reader it shows the message still in the All Mail folder but is tagged as in the In Mail folder and the Trash folder. It is not in the Trash folder.

To actually move the message to the Trash folder I must highlight the message and then click the trash can icon.

Any suggestions as to what is going on are greatly appreciated.

Have you by any chance changed your Gmail account from POP3 to IMAP?

 

No I have been using IMAP for years.

 

When you move a message in any program on your computer using IMAP, it instructs the email server to move/label it as necessary.

So it could be that a setting in Outlook has been changed, or a setting in Gmail. Have you been in any settings pages recently for any reason?
