cannot open .exe after manual removal of Win 7 Antispyware 2010

Hello everyone,

My system just had a bout with the Win 7 Antispyware 2010 malware. I only had AVG free and I don't think it was very effective. It moved some of the threats to the vault, but the popups kept coming. I ran to another computer and looked it up. I couldn't find a proper package that could remove it automatically (that didn't come with a price anyway), so I looked up how to remove it through regedit--I get impatient sometimes. I checked a few sites to make sure that the info was legit. I'm beginning to think that was a bad idea.

I removed pretty much everything. The only exceptions were:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center “AntiVirusOverride” = “1?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center “FirewallOverride” = “1?

After the reboot, I found that I couldn't open any .exe file--or shortcuts to that application. I get a message like "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I also don't have the little "launch thing" on the bottom right that looks like a triangle (sorry, I never took the time to learn what that was called). The weather gadget didn't start automatically either.

There is a weird exception for opening programs. If I double click a file that's linked to a program, the program opens up fine--This is the only reason I can open firefox.

Here's the kicker: regedit won't open either.
I'm running Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit

Give it to me straight, am I screwed or is there a way to fix this?
