cannot open http sites

    i cannot open http sites in any browser (ie, chrome, firefox, safari for windows, opera, even seamonkey) except the safari in iPadian. https sites work fine. http 1.1 through proxy setting in internet options is not checked. what do i do

    Hi

    What Windows version and Service Pack you using?

    I would try as a first step a boot into safe mode with networking, (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with Networking) and see if that helps.

    Clear temps and cookies using CCleaner and then reboot and test.

    Other steps will be malware scans and follow our malware guide and if any malware is found then post a new thread in the malware forum,

    i'm using xp sp.2
    i can also use netscape to open http sites. but the other browsers are still a no go.

    Just for comparison, I am using XP Home SP3 and Internet Explorer 8, although Opera is my default browser.

    In my Internet Options > Advanced, Both HTTP 1.1 settings Are checked.

    Please follow the advise from DavidGP.

    What do you mean, "can not open HTTP sites" ? What happens ?

    I agree and good train of thought, in describing what happens do you get any error message or popup message, if so please post the text in full.

    The other steps I posted earlier please do follow in the order posted as it can help narrow down the cause, or at lease the place to next start looking at.

    changing http 1.1 settings didn't work.
    this is what happens-
    -i open a browser (chrome/firefox/opera)
    -the browser starts loading the home page
    -the loading goes on forever
    -i try entering a url, the same thing happens
    whatever i do the browser just goes on loading
