cannot print from the internet

using aol7 or aol8. msie6 win98
lexmark inkjet z53

I used to be able to print e-mail and bits from internet.
Suddenly I cannot. I have a feeling this started with msie6.
Tried everything that aol has suggested. HELP!

I get the message:
AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED WITH THE SCRIPT ON THIS PAGE

INCOMPATTIBLE VERSION OF THE RPC STUB

Is there any chance that you can post what you and AOL have tried thus far so we don't suggest the same things to you and hence waste time?

I found many instances of that error regarding many different things... they all seem to point to a file version conflict....

I would start by re-installing the printer drivers and go from there...
report back if that doesn't do it and we/I can keep digging

To jump the gun a bit ( Kodo's advice is correct as covering the same ground can be frustrating to both YOU and us )

BUT open your Windows folder then system folder and look for a DLL file called "dispex.dll" if you find it post the Version number ( eg. 5.6.0.8515 ) ?

Oh you darling geeks. Since I am older than you, I will stretch the grey matter to remember what I tried.

Re-installed:
aol 8, msie6, win98, printer driver

Repaired:
msie6

deleted all temp files

Renamed a dll file old

microsoft admits error in a dll file in winxp, but I will have to stick
with this 98. Hope to get a new computer the end of the year.

the dispex.dll is ver. 5.6.0.8515

i have attached the proper dispex.dll in a zip document attached to this post.

download it and put it someplace where you can find it on your harddrive. Then extract the file to your windows/system directory.

Ah good WELL bad... thats the version I know CAN cause the problem you are having what you need to do is to rename that one dispex.old ( basically so you have it backed up )

Then replace it with the one i've uploaded to a website here seening as all is ok now this link is removed ( the file is in a self extracting compressed file, just double click to uncompress it ) then copy it into the same folder as the one you have renamed dispex.old

and hopefully it will resolve your printing problem if not its back to the drawing board

I just added your file to windows system. Did it before I readthe second post. So I did not do the renaming bit. But all is well. It worked.
