Cannot run Ad-aware or Spybot

Hello...

New user here

As of two days ago, my laptop has been driving me nuts!
It all started when I tried to run Spybot as I regularly do in order to update, immunize and check for any adware...However, after double clicking my Spybot launch icon, nothing happened.

I rebooted and same thing...I consequently uninstalled, re-downloaded and installed Spybot but still no luck.

I Googled the problem and came across this great forum.

I have done every step of the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" instructions posted here but still no luck

I am not sure it is a malware problem anymore as I ran every tool in safe mode with networking but found nothing other than normal cookies.

Does either program run within safemode?

Meant to include that in my original post

YES, in safe mode both programs run fine (actually I could not even re-install spybot in normal windows startup but managed to install it in safe mode)....Now I still can not run it in normal mode

Okay, something else to try:

Click start, then RUN, then type in : msconfig (press enter)

Now, select the radial button "Selective Startup". Next uncheck "Load Startup Items".
Press Ok, then yes to reboot. Try again in normal mode.

IF THIS WORKS.....then, you have a program that is stopping these two programs from running.
