cannot un-install program

ok well i fixed the microsoft office problem that somehow was created, but i still have the game that will not uninstall, it goes through the motions during uninstall and says 100% program has been removed, but low and behold its still there.

any suggestions?

Are you saying that it still shows in 'Add/Remove' Programs, or the directory is still there, or still showing in Start/Programs?

Do a search on Microsoft.com for 'Windows Install Clean up', which will remove the program, or better yet, try removing it from 'Safe' mode.


To remove a program reference viewable in the Add/Remove Programs tool:
1.Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

2.Locate the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

3.Locate the key to be deleted by locating the key name created by the program. If the name of the key is not apparent, browse through each key and note the value for DisplayName. This is the viewable string in the Add/Remove Programs tool.

4.Using the Registry menu, export the selected registry key to make a backup. Store the .reg file in a safe location in case you need to import it at a later date.

5.Delete the selected registry key and its values. Do not delete the entire Uninstall key.

6.Quit Registry Editor.

7.Verify that the reference in the Add/Remove Programs tool is no longer visible.

 

ok i tried safe mode and nothing, it remains.

im having trouble understanding (sorry i have never done this before) about going into the registry and removing the key - i cannot seem to find which key is for the game i need to remove.

 

Run this program and select the game you are trying to unistall.

If that doesn't work you will have to use a third-party uninstaller.

i tried wininstall and it does not show up in the list.

with removeit it shows up but i do not know what to do, there is just a list with registry keys and paths.

 

Click on the entry you want to remove, then click on Unistall. If that fails then click on Remove From List.

 

perhaps i did not download removeit correctly, all i see when i open removeit is what appears to be a spreadsheet showing all my programs in one column, and then their respective registry key in the second column, with their file path in the 3rd.

there are no choices for me to make.

did i do something wrong?

i downloaded, unzipped to removeit file, and opened.

ok your installer downloaded and loaded, i clicked to uninstall the program, and there was an error in which it said some registry files have not been removed blah blah and it listed the files with a suggestion to remove / delete which i did.

everything completed and said it has been removed.

its still there.

icon still on desktop. file still in programs list.

 

What's the name of the game?

in addition to not working (nascar2003) and not uninstalling...

it messed up norton
(now when i open office docs or reboot i get nothing but norton errors)

and i had to reinstall office for some reason, it would not allow me to open excel docs since the install


why me...

 

I didn't know you had started another thread. Did you try the link I gave you for the Norton errors?

I have no idea why that happened. You may have to uninstall your Norton and reinstall.

I am completely flaergasted that you can't uninstall that program, you said it is NASCAR Racing 2003.

Anyone else with some ideas feel free to contribute.

i will try that - i just wanted to get this program removed before i try to fix anything because i fear this program has caused all this mess.

so first i need to get rid of this nascar2003

 

You say nascar is unremovable.Where are the residues?
Is it still there in add/remove,is the program folder still there?

everything is still there, its in add/remove, its on my desktop, its in the start menu (programs) its on the c: drive

Don't be offended... but I have to ask a question. This game is legit right? you didn't download a crack or anything for it?

im trying to figure out the registry key of this program because advanced uninstaller lists a bunch of keys, perhaps its one of those and not named in the list???

 

well i cant figure out this registry stuff. since i had YOUR INSTALLER attempt to remove it, it no longer is showing up after reboot in the add/remove programs, but it is still in my programs menu as well as a folder on my c drive.

could it be gone and maybe i just have to delete the folders manually?
