    Hi,

I have bought a new printer and I cannot uninstall the drivers for the old one which is a Brother DCP-340CW. I have followed the directions on the Brother website for uninstalling in Windows 7 64bit and I get an error message. I have also downloaded and tried to uninstall the Brother uninstall tool and again I get an error message "invalid argument"

    Can anyone assist please?

    Hi

Have you tried to uninstall the old drivers in Safe Mode? (F8 at boot), do also make sure you are in the Admin account and possibly run the uninstall tool from Brother as an admin, so right click it and choose Run as Administrator.. reason is some apps do not have access to the registry so cannot fully uninstall an application.

Could also try this Revo Uninstaller to see if it helps if Safe Mode doesn't work.

    Tried that.

The brother drivers do not show up anywhere. Also gone to Device Manger/view/show hidden and deleted from there, but the icon is still in the Printer & Devices window and it is still under Printer Server Properties/Drivers and it will not let me remove it from there. Also downloaded Revo uninstaller but it seems to just do programmes, very similar to Ccleaner.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated

    Some additional information.

The computer is continually sending documents to the printer even when the printer is switched off. The documents are sent every two minutes, all are 56bytes or sometimes 34 bytes and the status is noted as "printed" and there are currently 822 documents in the print queue, although I cancelled all of these yesterday, although I could only delete the ones that were apparently already printed.

This is probably the reason why I cannot uninstall the printer and I get messages that it is in use, even although it is in the bucket!

I do not know how to stop this and I am sure it will cause problems for the new printer if I were to install it.

    Hi

In this location in the registry what is listed, start > run and type regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers (could be dev modes 2 as the branch to list printers)

Are you on a corporate network?
What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?
