Cannot update windows 7 update KB2908783

Hi Guys

Potted history; son had problems with iphone, did as was told and uninstalled itunes. but cannot reinstall because system not modified. (I am assuming that means windows not uptodate). we therefore searched for windows update, found 1 important (KB2908783) and 2 optional (2830477 and Bing). Not matter what we do - run MSfixit, windows update troubleshooter (which said it found there were problems, but did not fix them). I have run disk cleanup as suggested by the troubleshooter, run CCleaner and run antivirus software, but it appears that the updates are downloaded, bur when windows is closing, it configures 7% and then closes. Upon restart, it configures between 7 - 9% and said it failed and resets windows.

This is frustrating, not just for my son, but for me too, cos I am fed up with his whinging!!

Have you tried manually installing the Hotfix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2908783 ?

If that does not fix it, what is the full and exact message you are getting from Windows Update?

I tried it but it still did not work.
The install works, but upon start up when it is trying to configure the changes, it gets to 7% and gives this message "failure configuring changes. Reverting changes". I get no error message anywhere else.

No it's a pc with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. I'll hide the update and leave it at that.
