Canon MP800 doesn't print, or stops after a few seconds.

    Hi,

    I purchased the Canon MP800 about 3-4 years ago and didn't have any problems. Recently the printer started acting up and is giving me trouble.

    1. The printer only prints about half an inch of the image and then spits out the paper. Sometimes it justs stops, other times it spits out the paper and tries to print on a new paper.
    2. I'm getting the 'Printer does not respond' (NOTE! Not sure if that's what the error says in English as the printer/print dialog box is in Dutch).
    3. It prints really, really slow. It's not what it used to be.

    I'm not sure if this is causing it but I purchased 3 ink cartidges from another manufacturer. I tried un(and re)installing the driver but that didn't work. I tried dis(and re)connecting the USB cable but that also didn;t work. I tried rebooting so there weren't many programs running but again, that didn't work. Could someone please help?

    Thanks Bill, but I had already re-installed those drivers after I deleted the 'old' version. The error simply says 'Printer reageert niet.' but not every time I try to print. Just occasionally.

    'Printer reageert niet.' means that the printer "is not responding"

    This all points to a driver problem but if you have checked them i am at a loss to give another answer.

    Something strange happened, this afternoon I got 2 perfect prints then nothing. Let me explain the situation;

    This afternoon I re-installed the drivers (printer drivers and MP Navigator) and zipped all of the files to a folder on my desktop. That worked! The files were installed to Program Files so I figured I could delete those files on my desktop. Big mistake! When I started the printer again I got this message (to all the English readers, it's in Dutch by the way) it says that the USB machine is not being recognised. Troubleshooting it does not help;

    So again, I reinstalled those drivers again but I keep getting that pop-up. Also, wheter I unistall or reinstall, every time I want to reboot, Windows says there's 1 update to install. Not sure what this is. Any help?

    Hi

    I would try this first as the spooler cache maybe corrupted (use this flush app) and then try a full clean install of your drivers for printer using this guide from Bruce Sanderson here

    On the Windows update that keeps repeating does it tell you which one as a KB number as in KB12345 ? if so search for that KB number and download the update manually as it will likely clear this message (can check the inbuilt Windows Update and Update History to possibly see what one is failing.

    Halo, thanks for your advice, I'm trying it as I type.

    I can't see what kind of update it is as I can only see it when I want to shutdown the computer. It does not have any name just 'Update 1'. Time to reboot again.

    Damn, again I'm getting the 'USB is not being recognised' error. Could it be a faulty cable (which I have been using for the last 3-4 years) or could it be hardware/software within the computer?
